Setup Guide
Work through the three chapters that get your business taking bookings and getting paid.
Overview
Your setup guide lives in the Get started pill in the top bar. It follows you onto every page, so you can pick setup back up wherever you are.
The first time you land on your dashboard it opens by itself, once, to show you where it is. It does not block the page, and it never opens itself again.
The Three Chapters
Setup is split into three chapters. Only one is open at a time, so you are never looking at more than a handful of steps.
| Chapter | What it gets you |
|---|---|
| Run your first Report | Enough set up to take a booking and deliver the work. |
| Bring your data over | Your templates and contacts moved across, so you are not starting from an empty account. |
| Get paid | Clients able to pay you online, and the money reaching your bank. |
Click a chapter to open it. The one you are working on opens on its own, and a finished chapter collapses to a single struck-through line.
Run your first report
Four steps, or five in industries that produce Reports. If you filled in your business name when you signed up, the first step is already done.
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| Set up company profile | Go to SettingsCompany and fill in your business name, contact details, and logo. |
| Add Inspection Type with pricing | The action button opens a new Inspection Type form for you. Give it a name and a price, then save. |
| Configure availability | We set a starting schedule for you. Check the days and hours are right, then confirm. |
| Create your first Order | Follow Your First Order. |
Your industry adds one more step: Create your first Report. This is what clients receive when the work is done.
Bring your data over
Available from the start. You do not need to finish anything else first.
What it offers depends on the software you said you were switching from, in the setup form or to the setup assistant:
| If you are | You will see |
|---|---|
| Moving from Spectora | Book your migration call -- we move your templates, contacts and past jobs for you |
| Moving from Home Inspector Pro or InspectIT | Import your templates -- upload your export file and we convert it |
| Moving from other software, including Tap Inspect | Book your migration call -- a person converts your file for you |
| Starting fresh | Pick a starter template from the marketplace |
| Not sure, or you never said | Switching from other software? -- tell us and we will move your data, or mark it done if you are starting fresh |
Every account also gets Import your contacts.
Get paid
Opens after you create your first Order. Until then the chapter shows a padlock and tells you what unlocks it.
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| Set up payments | Connect your bank through Stripe at SettingsInvoices. |
| Set your invoice details | Choose your invoice numbering, payment terms, and what appears on the invoice. |
| Fine-tune your pricing | Add your real size tiers, per-property prices, add-ons and travel charges in Inspection Type. |
Why pricing appears twice
The setup conversation only gets you a working price so you can take a booking. Your full pricing has more in it than a chat can cover, so this step is where you set it up properly.
How Progress Works
Steps complete themselves. The system checks your real data -- whether a company profile is saved, whether a service has a price, whether availability is confirmed, whether an Order exists. You never mark those done by hand.
A few steps have nothing we can check, like importing contacts or confirming you have nothing to bring over. Those carry a Done button.
The pill shows how far through the current chapter you are, for example Get started 2/5. The count is always on the pill, even on a narrow screen.
Drafts From the Setup Assistant
If you used the setup assistant, some steps have drafts waiting. A sparkle icon appears next to those steps, the pill shows a pulsing dot, and the action button reads Review draft instead of Set up.
Ask AI for Help
Steps the AI assistant can help with -- company profile, Inspection Type, and availability -- show an Ask AI button. It opens the assistant already asking about that step.
You can also just ask it. Try "What's left to set up?" or "Why can't clients book me?" -- it reads your account and tells you what is actually missing. See Using the AI Assistant.
Dismissing the Setup Guide
To close the popover, click the × in its corner. That only hides the panel; the pill stays.
To stop the guide for good, open the pill and click Dismiss setup guide at the bottom, then confirm. Your progress is kept, but the guide and its reminders will not come back. Every setting is still reachable from the sidebar.
After Setup
Once you finish the first chapter, a Business Milestones card appears on your dashboard, tracking your first Order, your first published Report, your first payment, and your first month with revenue.
The pill keeps going while the other two chapters have work left in them.
